Two Doctors, One Shared Training Path, and a Practice Built for Their Own Kids
Bold Bite Orthodontics did not begin as a business plan. It began in a pre-clinical lab at Boston University School of Dental Medicine, where Dr. Martin Greenberg and Dr. Trang Cao met as dental students and discovered they shared the same stubborn conviction: orthodontic care should be personal, conservative, and technology-forward — not quota-driven, not cookie-cutter, and not outsourced to a rotating associate. Dr. Greenberg graduated Cum Laude. Dr. Cao graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Both doctors then chose the same orthodontic residency program at Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics — a CODA-accredited specialty program widely regarded as one of the most clinically rigorous in the Southeast. Dr. Cao completed her Specialty Certificate and earned a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS), going on to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics — a distinction held by fewer than half of practicing orthodontists in the country. Dr. Greenberg completed the same Specialty Certificate, earned an MS in Orthodontics, and spent an additional year on a Research Fellowship investigating tech-driven treatment workflows. He is ABO Board Eligible through the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Greenberg spent more than eight years practicing general dentistry before specializing, which is a less common path in orthodontics than families might assume. That general-dentistry background shapes how Bold Bite treats every case: orthodontic decisions are made in the context of the whole mouth — cavity risk, restorative implications, wear patterns, periodontal health, and occlusal stability — not just whether the front teeth look aligned in a photo.
Bold Bite opened in March 2023 as a de novo boutique practice at 14035 Beach Blvd, Suite 104 in Jacksonville, convenient to St. Johns Town Center, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and Ponte Vedra. The two doctors co-own the practice. There is no parent company, no DSO, no silent investor. The clinical standard they follow is the one their own training demanded, and the office they built is the one they would want to bring their own two children to — captured in the practice philosophy tagline “Built the office they’d want to bring their kids to.”
The Jacksonville community responded quickly. Within the first two years Bold Bite reached 174 five-star Google reviews, treated more than 3,000 case-visits, and built a local patient base that spans beach-side families, St. Johns Town Center professionals, active-duty military from Mayport Naval Station, and Spanish-speaking and Vietnamese-speaking households whose first consultation is often with Dr. Cao or a bilingual team member on the scheduling team.

What Makes This Practice Different
Bold Bite is owned and operated by two orthodontists, a husband-and-wife team who personally treat every patient with no rotating associates. Because the doctors are also the owners, their recommendation is never influenced by cost: the practice charges the same fee whether a patient chooses braces or Angel Aligners, so the recommendation reflects what is genuinely best for each individual case. Every consultation also includes airway screening, which most practices do not offer as a standard part of the initial visit.
How Cases Are Diagnosed and Planned
The most common mistake Bold Bite sees in referring orthodontic cases is insufficient attention to oral hygiene and starting treatment before the patient is mentally or developmentally ready to participate in their own care. Dr. Greenberg’s background in general dentistry before specializing gives the practice a clinical eye for cavity risk that many orthodontic settings overlook. Straight teeth matter; healthy teeth matter more.
On Pricing
Bold Bite’s fee reflects what is included in the case, not just the appliance. Every case is personally managed by two residency-trained orthodontists and includes CBCT 3D imaging with airway screening, Grin Scope remote monitoring, and any functional appliances and retainers printed in-house, with no surprise add-on charges. The practice publishes its pricing and provides the exact fee in writing at the consultation. Because Angel Aligners use an orthodontist-only distribution model, the practice can price aligner treatment lower than Invisalign and pass that savings along directly to patients.
When Treatment is Not Recommended
Bold Bite recommends against starting orthodontic treatment when a patient is not mentally ready, when oral hygiene is inadequate, or when the patient has not had a dental checkup and cleaning in over a year. The practice also holds off when starting treatment is not in the patient’s best interest at that moment, such as when additional growth is needed first or when ENT, airway, or TMJ concerns should be addressed before moving teeth.
Treatments Others Don’t Offer
Several Bold Bite services are difficult or impossible to find at typical Jacksonville orthodontic offices. Airway screening using CBCT with AI analysis is built into every consultation. The practice offers MARPE, a miniscrew-assisted palatal expander that widens the upper jaw in adults without surgery. Adult snoring and mild airway issues are addressed with a DynaFlex mandibular advancement device. And Angel Aligners, an orthodontist-only clear-aligner system most local practices do not carry, are available as the practice’s primary aligner platform.

A lower-priced alternative usually means fewer specialists, less technology, or hidden add-on fees that surface later. At Bold Bite, two residency-trained orthodontists personally plan and manage every case, not a general dentist who completed a weekend certification course or a remote service with no in-person exam. Every patient receives CBCT 3D imaging with airway screening, in-house 3D-printed appliances, and remote monitoring, all included in one transparent fee. The practice’s position is that paying a fair price once and finishing well is a better outcome than saving up front and needing treatment redone.

Real Emergency or Comfort Issue?
Most orthodontic discomfort is not an emergency. Poky wires, mild aching, loose elastics, and minor irritation usually resolve at home with orthodontic wax, a warm saltwater rinse, or over-the-counter ibuprofen. These can wait until the next regular appointment.
Real emergencies are rare. A bracket stuck to a lip, or appliance breakage causing extreme pain or eating difficulty, warrants same-day care. Bold Bite Orthodontics holds same-day emergency slots during clinical hours, delivered under local anesthesia only.
The practice is not equipped with sedation. For severe trauma to teeth or jaw, a child in extreme distress, or any case requiring sedation, please call an emergency pediatric dentist, an oral surgeon, or 911. Bold Bite Orthodontics will happily provide follow-up care after acute stabilization. After-hours emergency access is reserved for active patients of the practice and depends on doctor availability (the doctor must be in town).
Broken appliances fall in between. If the break is causing pain or interfering with eating, treat it as an emergency and call. If the appliance is loose but tolerable, a comfort appointment at the next available slot is enough. The Emergency Care page walks through common situations step by step.
